CHRISTMAS CHOCOLATE AT THE  ALIMENTARIUM IN VEVEY – UNTIL 28 DECEMBER

The Alimentarium is the Nestle Museum in Vevey. The Museum is very interesting and was just redone, so it’s worth a visit,  and currently has an exhibition on the "detox" mythology. But what will probably tempt you as well is to participate in one of the culinary workshops. They offer different possibilities, also to schools, but the one suited for families is called “Saveur et Savoir”. The one that is currently offered – and very much sought after, is about making Christmas Chocolate! If you want to lick your fingers while contemplating your chocolaty masterpiece, make sure to book well in advance!

Wednesdays (and other weekdays)  14:15 and 15:45; Saturdays and Sundays 15:00 and 16:30. In French only, but you’re shown what to do.

Call  021 924 41 41 (mo-fri office hours, until 16:00) to make sure you get a spot. (Or try the website reservation, but min 48 hours in advance.) UPDATE: Children are allowed to have their own cooking spot  starting age 9 at Saveur et Savoir; but from 4 to 8, there is another special family workshop that started this year, on the same theme, on Sundays from 14:00 to 16:30 (called "Place à la famille"). CHOIR OF  THE ARMAILLIS DE LA GRUYERE - SAINT-PREX 2 NOVEMBER 
Switzerland as a whole, but the Suisse Romande in particular, has a phenomenal density of very hard-working and serious choirs, usually meeting weekly or more,  and preparing 2-4 concerts a year. In  older days every village had one (or  in fact two, if there were political adversaries...): this has been a century-old tradition. In schools, the "Petits Choeurs" were taken very seriously. We are relly lucky to have the "Choeur des Armaillis" perform in Saint-Prex, on Sunday the 2nd of November, at 17:00. just near Morges. They were invited by the Concert Society of Morges,  at the Centre Culturel du Vieux-Moulins of Saint-Prex. This is much closer than anything they usually get to the Lake Leman :-). If you want to get a really interesting programme of both classical and "romand" choir music, it's worth a call. PS: for such concerts, do take cash to pay for your tickets, It's most unusual that they have card machines.

JEAN-GABRIEL CUENOD : HOSANNA ! DANS LA JOIE – OCTOGONE PULLY 18-19 DECEMBRE

Si vous aimez ce type d’humour (voir ici: https://www.youtube.com/show/120secondes) ne ratez pas ce spectacle et surtout, réservez vite ! Il est en tournée jusqu’à la fin de l’année et ce sont les derniers spectacles où il reste de la place… Nous constatons que nos ados adorent, et bien des parents aussi… Révélé par l’émission de radio « 120 secondes », ce personnage rocambolesque  inventé par Didier Charlet est le diacre imaginaire de la Cure de Chastavel, et il va tenter de vous convaincre des vertus de la religion… à sa manière !

VOIR DE L’OPERA – AU CINEMA ! : CARMEN -  1^er NOVEMBRE

Envie de donner une chance aux enfants d’apprécier l’opéra? Mais un peu raz-le bol de dépenser des fortunes pour des mises en scènes plus abracabantesques les unes que les autres (du genre : Figaro dans le slum de New York, ou Fidelio au goulag…) Le Met (= Le Metropolitan Opera à New York) a trouvé la solution pour vous. Premier point : les mises en scènes sont belles,  soignées et classiques, les chanteurs de classe internationale. Deuxième point : le tout est retransmis en direct dans des salles de cinémas du monde entier, dont le Pathé à Lausanne. Alors, laissez-vous tenter !

Le 1er novembre ce sera Carmen, avec Anita Rachvelishvili dans le rôle-titre : elle l’a chanté la première fois à la Scala en 2009 pour l’enchantement du public, et nous nous réjouissons de l’entendre  de New York !

PETIT PRINCE A L’OPERA 5-12 NOVEMBRE

Il reste encore des places pour cette nouvelle création,  commandée spécialement par des Opéras de Suisse et de France à Michaël Lévinas http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micha%C3%ABl_Levinas. Et elle est spécifiquement destinée au Jeune Public !  Impossible de la commenter puisque  personne ne l’a entendue J mais à écouter d’autres pièces de l’auteur, on devrait être dans du mélodique et du musical, et pas dans du « contemporain » souvent bien difficile à subir…  A tenter !

FESTIVAL LA SALAMANDRE, MORGES – 24-26 OCTOBRE

Julien Perrot avait 11 ans quand il s’est mis en tête de publier une revue pour des passionnés de nature comme lui. Ce qui n’était au départ qu’un rêve d’enfant est devenu un projet à plein temps : « La Salamandre »,  pour les grands, et « La Petite Salamandre », pour les petits, sont  devenus des incontournables  pour les amoureux de nature. http://www.salamandre.net/  Leurs dossiers sont passionnants, la présentation impeccable, et on ne peut qu’en recommander la lecture ! S’y ajoute maintenant un magnifique festival pour toute la famille - activités, présentations, films : cette année c’est la forêt qui est à l’honneur.  N’hésitez pas à y faire un tour !

BEJART 17-21 DECEMBER

It's the last minute to get good tickets  for the traditional Christmas performance of the Béjart Ballet Lausanne at Beaulieu. This international class ballet company does not need to be introduced; after Béjart’s death a few years ago, Gil Roman took over, and he is doing a wonderful job in both preserving the heritage of the great master and having the company evolve  towards a new repertoire. They will dance “Le Presbytère”, a rather late piece (1997) dedicated to the memory of Jorge Donn, Bejart’s favorite dancer who died of AIDS aged 43. The music is by Mozart and Queen (Freddy Mercury died at the same age), and the costumes are by Versace. An extremely interesting and varied piece, but  it’s better suited for older children.

Let’s note that it is already possible to buy ticket for the performance of Beethoven’s 9^th Symphony, a choreography Bejart created 50 years ago! They will perform it at the Patinoire de Malley J, 17-21 June 2015. This performance is suitable for the whole family, so why not seize the opportunity and initiate your younger ones to the charms of modern ballet?

We’ll start with quite a lot of music because the season is already under way. More varied info (sports, workshops, etc.) will follow. On commence avec pas mal de musique parce que la saison a déjà commencé. Les infos seront plus variées (sport, ateliers, etc.) dans quelques semaines.

FESTIVAL BACH 30 OCTOBRE-29 NOVEMBRE

Particulièrement recommandable pour les passionés de musique baroque: Dimanche 16 novembre à 17 heures, à l’Opéra de Lausanne, l’éblouissant et fantasque haute-contre Max Emmanuel Cencic. Mais il n’y a plus de places, alors tentez votre chance à la caisse le soir du spectacle….

Et à Saint-François, avecles Talens Lyriques, http://www.lestalenslyriques.com/ l’Oratiorio de Noël de Bach,  (l’intégrale des 6 cantates, donc environ deux heures et demie de musique… Sans doute un peu long pour les petits.) Les Talens Lyriques ont une belle réputation et jouent ici avec joie et finesse une des œuvres les plus connues du grand Jean-Sébastien.

CHAMBER ORCHESTRA  SUNDAY MORNINGS -  FIRST CONCERT  19 OCTOBER

The Lausanne Chamber Orchester (OCL = Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne) has a very good reputation and pursues an international career. They play  8  Sunday Morning Concerts, starting at 11 am, always with a solo instrument, at the Lausanne Opera. The first one will be very suitable for younger children, since they will play Nino Rota and Mozart, with Marc-Antoine Bonanomi at the double bass!

For parents, we can also recommend  the “Entractes du Mardi” – take advantage of  your children being at school to listen to some classical music on Tuesday at noon! The programmes are always very interesting, mixing classics with modern or very little known music. You can also get a snack  and a drink. Why not give it a try?
